Actors, directors and producers, Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi have been considered by mass media as two of the most influential young showrunners nowadays. Their work is full of emotion, humor, color, music, diversity and LGTBIQ+ awareness.
With their HBO Max coproduction Veneno, based on the life of the Trans Icon Cristina Ortiz, they reached international recognition. It is part of the 2020’s Best TV Series of the Year of The New Yorker and Variety, and has received the endorsement of Madonna and Ellen DeGeneres, among other global trendsetters.
The press and the awards have also prized their work. Apart from the super laureate Veneno, they are winners of an Ondas Awards, three Feroz and a Silver Fotogramas, and also nominated for the Goya Awards for Best New Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Created by Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo, known locally as Los Javis, “Veneno” revisits the life and untimely death of Spanish transgender singer and TV personality Cristina Ortiz Rodríguez, better known as La Veneno. The show covers Ortiz’s entire life, from her humble upbringing in the small Spanish fishing village of Adra before eventually running away from an abusive and homophobic mother, her transition and her adult years when she met and became close friends with trans writer Vegas (played by Lola Rodriguez), who wrote
the memoir “¡Digo! Ni puta ni santa, Las memorias de La Veneno” (Listen! Neither whore nor said, the memories of La Veneno) on which the series is based. Since her 2016 death at only 52, she has been recognised as a pioneering trans icon in Spain. In the series, Ortiz is portrayed by three trans women. Jedet plays her at the beginning of her transition, Daniela Santiago during her early career and Isabel Torres plays
La Veneno later in life.
