The Characters
ENRIC
Enric, a large, coarse, rough and serious man. He is violent, quiet, locked in himself, and he has a toxic and explosive relationship with sex. He works as a camera assistant on Catholic films, and it has been years since he has seen or spoken to his sister, Irene.
IRENE
Irene, Enric’s younger sister, a thin woman with a serious demeanor and apparently very controlling. She has a small, pink scar on her face. She keeps her anxiety hidden, quiet, pushed deep down inside; although she smiles on the outside, inside she is scared, sad and empty. She works as lead pattern designer at a sewing workshop.
MONTSERRAT
Montserrat is at the root of it all. She is the beginning and the end. Montserrat is a powerful figure, fascinating and terrifying. An incredibly narcissistic mother. As a young woman, she was an incredibly beautiful woman who had two children, Enric and Irene, too soon. As she grows older, she gains more and more weight, she is bloated, her body suffers from having had so many daughters in such a short period of time.
STELLA MARIS
A Catholic music band made up by several sisters who sing to the Virgin. The band has gone viral, and they are the butt of many jokes due to their involuntarily hilarious songs, choreographies and their strange appearance: all dressed the same, their hair long, their gazes lost.
AINA
Aina, a lanky girl with harsh features, a plain Jane with very long hair. She is curt, dark, withdrawn. Aina is constantly fighting a battle within herself, suffering, much like her mother, Montserrat. She is the eldest of several sisters who, all together, make up the Stella Maris Catholic music band.
CECILIA
Cecilia is a thin, pale-looking girl with very long hair. She is the opposite of her older sister, Aina. She is full of light, spirited, curious, a dreamer and absent-minded. She yearns to learn about new things and is always looking out the window. She is a member of the Catholic music band Stella Maris along with several of her sisters. Cecilia is the only one who actually has a gift for singing.
PEP
Pep is a strange man, gaunt and very tall. Very Christian, very devout. A religious fanatic. When he meets Montserrat, years younger than he is, he is fascinated by her and they start a new life together forming a large family. He works as a gardener for the wealthy and takes immaculate care of his garden.
ROSA
Rosa, Pep’s sister, is a beautiful woman with short hair, very natural, full of energy and a hippy who leads a bohemian life in her house in the mountains.
GRETA
Greta is Ricardo’s sister, she is solicitous, fun, straightforward and a problem solver. She is very close to her brother and Irene. She works as a lawyer, and has just gotten married to Francesc.
LAIA
Laia is Montserrat’s older sister. She is a simple woman, responsible, a caregiver, and very protective. She and her sister could not be more unlike, and they have been arguing their whole lives. Laia is single, has no children and lives with her parents, Amparo and Manel.
